O-Level French Syllabus 2010

Introduction
The syllabus presented here has been designed to lead to a teaching syllabus and scheme of work which
will provide:

  1. a system that differentiates between candidates on the basis of positive achievement rather than failure;
  2. a system in which the lower grades represent a useful achievement and an ability to achieve genuine standards of communicative competence in real life situations;
  3. a system which enables all candidates to gain grades according to their competence.

Aims
The aims of a course in French leading to the award of a Secondary Education Certificate should be:

  1. to develop the ability to use the language effectively for the purposes of practical communication;
  2. to form a sound basis of the language by imparting, the four basic skills;
  3. to develop strategies of learning to learn and autonomous learning as indispensable attitudes for further study, work and leisure;
  4. to offer insights into French culture and civilisation; to provide enjoyment and intellectual stimulation.
